Created in 1995, PRSF is a non-governmental and non-profit organization. Non-religious and non-political, it is made up of men and women from various backgrounds and opinions, who share the same basic human values.

PRSF

• brings moral and material support to every prisoner, regardless of race, religion or gender.

• improves the living conditions of prisoners on a day-to-day sustainable basis.

• encourages democratic progress by getting the civil society involved  in the prison system, in Africa and elsewhere. 

Hundreds of volunteers make up in "field teams" working in Africa. 

PRSF priorities are :

• recognizing the abilities of local citizens to listen and to support them.

• getting the civil society involved.

• promoting self-initiatives.

The specificity of PRSF operations implies a free access, without any restrictions, to every prison. How can you be of any help if it is not possible to meet prisoners, to listen to them, to identify their needs, to check their health and their living conditions ?

Three principles are promoted by PRSF in order to get authorizations from the prison authorities, to develop efficient and reliable activities:

• sustainable operations: PRSF only operates in a prison or a country on a long-term basis and providing actually improvements for prisoners. Spectacular actions are excluded, to guarantee a maximum access to prisoners.

• confidentiality: the NGO does not remain silent about inhuman situations, but makes the authorities aware of these acts in order to stop them.

• partnership: prison issues are complex and require everyone's strong commitment (NGOs, legal and prison administrations, civil society, employees, sponsors...)  

Thanks to its expertise, PRSF commits itself to supporting every initiative aiming at restoring dignity to prisoners.
