When
prisoners' living conditions improve, democracy takes a step forward
In Africa, overcrowded prisons combine all the plagues of the continent. Malnutrition, illnesses and death are sometimes higher than those recorded in refugees' camps. Consequently, prisoners' living conditions frequently don't meet the minimal standards required to respect human rights. PRSF (Prisonniers Sans Frontières, Prisoners Without Borders) is a non-religious, non-political and non-profit organization, whose aim is to strengthen democracy and respect of human rights in Africa, through partnership with prison authorities and civil society's involvement in managing the penitentiary system. |
